Handheld tools are ideal for field work such as installations, commissioning and physical fault finding without the hassle of external power requirements or a host PC/laptop.

Comsoft Net Test II (DP)

The Net Test II can be used without dependence on a laptop/PC in the field, and can be powered by the supplied rechargeable batteries or AC mains adapter. It is also of a simple, rugged design with a built-in backlight that allows for operation in harsh industrial environments.

The Net Test II is available in 3 software unlockable configurations:

  • Basic - provides only offline (no master/PLC running) tests which include cable, live list and signal strength tests.

  • Basic + Online - provides basic and online (master/PLC present) tests, such as live-list generation, and event log/event count/basic telegram sniffing operations

  • Advanced - provides basic, online and mono-master functions. The mono-master function allows the device to perform numerous master-related operations, such as setting device addresses and read device IO.

The Net Test II is a good, all-round tool that as unique in-the-field usability, and is ideally suited to PROFIBUS network installers and maintenance personnel. It is a must-have tool for any PROFIBUS site, and is one of the few devices available that provides comprehensive cable tests.

 

Softing BC-230-PB (PA)

The Softing PA Diagnostic Monitor is a unique PA network diagnostic device that encapsulates the key diagnostic functions of many instruments into a single, highly portable diagnostic unit.

The Profibus PA Diagnostic Monitor, BC-230-PB, is used to examine the operation of a live Profibus-PA segment without interfering with its operation. It is powered by the fieldbus so that no battery or external power source is required. The monitor is also useable in hazardous areas. It is intended for maintenance personnel to verify segment operation or to troubleshoot an errant segment.

Key features include:

  • automatic segment test gives a OK/BAD indication without operator intervention
  • detects number of devices on the segment
  • displays device addresses in decimal and hexadecimal
  • indicates device add & drop
  • displays number of detected retransmissions
  • displays signal level for all devices with indication of the lowest detected signal level
  • detects short circuits between either of the signal wires and cable shield
  • measures average and peak noise in three bands: below, at and above fieldbus frequency
  • segment reports via USB to PC, displayed as Microsoft® Excel chart
